![]() By the end of the session, I was dismantling the more maladroit players as though I'd been playing for months rather than minutes. With each death I learnt something, and then I was in another match in 30 seconds, utilising my newfound knowledge. There was no tutorial beyond some instructional billboards in the pre-game area, but I found I didn't need anything more than that. That's barely scratching the surface, but there's little point going deeper into it because an hour with the game will teach you what you need to know. It's simple and familiar, and provides a solid foundation on which developers Iron Galaxy quickly pile complexities such as jump attacks, throwable items, and special skills that you must learn by reading magazines in between fights. You've got basic attacks, which can be blocked, and vicious attacks, which are unblockable but can be dodged. Rumbleverse's big spin on the battle royale formula is its focus on melee combat. Yet those two hours I spent playing Rumbleverse might be the most fun I've ever had in a battle royale. I've sunk thousands of hours into Apex Legends, Fortnite, Plunkbat, Hunt: Showdown, Warzone, and various other behemoths of the genre. I found myself absolutely desperate to play more. Two hours later, at 1am in the morning as the servers shut down, I happened across a second, far more unexpected thing. ![]() I downloaded and installed it in short order, and jumped right in. ![]() First: I got the opportunity to dive into Rumbleverse's action-packed 40-player matches far earlier than I'd anticipated, as part of a one day early look at the game. Two things happened later that day that I did not expect. "Well, that looks terrible," chortled I, knowing full well that I'd still give it a go at the earliest opportunity because I am an absolute sucker for battle royales. You can regenerate your health points by consuming Chicken or Big Chicken, or activating Superstar Mode. When I finished watching The Game Awards reveal trailer for Rumbleverse, the new Epic-published battle royale game that looks a bit like Fortnite but with melee combat, I raised a practiced eyebrow of derision. When your health reaches 0, you have lost and become "KO'd". Any damage you receive removes the same number of health points. Your Health Bar determines how much damage you can receive from opponents. Shielding also increases your stamina regeneration. Stamina naturally regenerates, but this rate can be increased with the Stamina Drink or the Mega Stamina Drink. If your stamina reaches 0, you will become "Winded" and unable to perform these movements until your stamina regenerates. Stamina is used when you dash, climb, dodge or perform any moves acquired from Magazines. The player can increase their max stamina and health above these values via their Stat Slots (see below). Irish Whip - Combining a dash with vicious grabs and Irish Whips your opponent, tossing them and sending them running uncontrollably in a selected direction.Įach player starts the match with 100 Stamina and 1000 Health points.Dropkick - Combining a dash with a strike dropkicks your opponent. This move increases in damage the farther it falls. Elbow Drop - Strike while in the air to start an Elbow Drop.Vicious - Grabs your opponent and suplexes them behind your back.Strike - Throws 3 quick attacks at your opponent in a row. This timer slowly regenerates when back inside of the ring. If your player is still outside the ring when it reaches 0, you are disqualified (no matter your HP or super meter). If your player stays outside of the ring, your "Ring Out Timer" will count down from 10 seconds. As the match goes on, the ring will shrink faster and faster. Additionally, from this point the ring begins its cycle of progressively shrinking and pausing (with an initial time of 90 seconds before a 30 second shrink period). ![]() When inside the ring, you can go into Free Fall in your own time to control your landing. When it's time for Cannon Launch, you will be able to aim your cannon before launching to choose where you would like to go. ![]()
